Privacy policy
Last updated 26 Aug 2026
This policy explains what information Backyard Hummers collects when you visithttps://thebackyardhummers.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
This is a static content site. We do not ask you to register, log in, or submit personal information to read anything here, and we do not sell information about our readers.
What we do collect falls into three buckets:
- Anonymous analytics. We use privacy-respecting web analytics to see which articles people find useful. The data is aggregated and does not identify individual visitors — page viewed, approximate country, browser, referring site.
- Server logs. Our host automatically logs each request (IP address, user agent, URL, timestamp) as part of normal web-server operation. These are used for security and troubleshooting and rotate on the provider's default schedule.
- Email you send us. If you write tohello@thebackyardhummers.com we keep your message and reply as needed. We do not add you to any list without your asking.
Cookies
We set no first-party cookies for advertising or tracking. Our analytics may set a small first-party cookie or use local storage to tell a returning visit from a new one; that data is not shared with third parties for advertising.
When you click an affiliate link and land on Amazon, Amazon sets its own cookies as described in the Amazon.com Privacy Notice. That is how Amazon knows to credit us. We receive no personal information about you from Amazon — only aggregate reports of clicks and resulting orders.
Third parties
- Amazon.com — affiliate links and product data.
- Our hosting provider — serves the site, keeps standard access logs.
- Our analytics provider — processes anonymous usage data on our behalf.
We do not run third-party display ads.
Your choices
You can block cookies and analytics through your browser or an extension such as uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.
If you are a California resident and want to know what personal information we hold, or want it deleted, write to hello@thebackyardhummers.com. Because we do not link analytics data to individual identities there is usually nothing personal to return or delete, but we will confirm that in writing.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. We run no cross-site advertising trackers, so there is nothing on our side to switch off in response.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site changes — a newsletter, a different analytics provider. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
